Former Nottingham Forest striker calls out Grabban for 'wrong choice' in Reading draw

Former Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson has called out Lewis Grabban for making the 'wrong choice' in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Reading.

Grabban had the best chance of the match to double Forest 's lead after Philip Zinckernagel put the Reds ahead inside five minutes.

His effort was eventually cleared off the goal-line by Reading defender Liam Moore just after half-time, but on closer inspection, Jack Colback, who has been amongst the goals as of late, was on hand to tap in a lay off should the striker have taken that option.

Scott Dann equalised later in the half as the Royals picked up a point, and Johnson was far from pleased at the striker for costing his side all three.

"Frustrating result," his initial full-time tweet reads. "Thought [Forest] created more than enough to win the game.

"Defensively we [were] very good and let ourselves down at times with the final 3rd.

"Huge week ahead & onto Tuesday. Safe travels home [Forest] fans."

Then, after being challenged by a fan about Grabban, Johnson added the following.

"He’s selfish. Singled [minded] (whatever you call it nowadays).

"But it was the wrong choice and cost the team 3pts fact."

In his post-match press conference, head coach Steve Cooper was more diplomatic in his assessment of Grabban's chance.

"The one off the line is brilliant defending," he said. "He did amazing to get to the position to shoot.

"There was also a really good save from Brennan (Johnson) at the end. A really good save, I have to say.

"There was one where Lewis went round the goalkeeper. Jimmy ( James Garner ) had one where he didn't get a connection on it. The list goes on. There was a couple of attacking set-pieces which we got first contact on.

"Reading are a good team. I saw them last year when they just missed out on the play-offs. They've got a load of good players. They were at home.

"I'm waffling, really, we just need to take the point and move on."
