Former Nottingham Forest star linked with move to relegated Premier League side

Fulham have reportedly earmarked former Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga as a transfer target this summer.

That is dependant on the likely departure of Aleksandar Mitrovic, if the frontman moves on with Premier League interest in the former Newcastle United man.

The Evening Standard report that former Forest man Assombalonga, now at Middlesbrough after a £15million transfer in 2017, is on a list of replacements for Mitrovic should he move on.

Crystal Palace and West Ham are believed to be interested in Mitrovic, who netted 11 times in the Premier League for relegated Fulham last season.

Dwight Gayle is also said to be identified as a replacement for Mitrovic, with the former Palace man enjoying another stellar Championship campaign last season, netting 24 goals on loan from Newcastle.

One potential stumbling block could be the fee, though, with the Magpies wanting £20m for Gayle.

Assombalonga netted 14 times for Boro last season, who missed out on a play-off place by a point.

The 26 year-old scored 30 goals in 69 games for Forest after joining from Peterborough United.
