Former Nottingham Forest player reveals lockdown measures have left him stranded

Former Nottingham Forest forward Hillal Soudani has revealed he is unable to return to Greece due to the lockdown measures caused by the coronavirus.

The COVID-19 outbreak has led to elite football across the UK and Europe being suspended, as well as further restrictions placed on society to try and deal with the virus.

Soudani was signed by Forest in the summer of 2018 from Dinamo Zagreb, but struggled with a long-term injury while at the City Ground.

He made just eight appearances for the Reds, scoring two goals, before leaving Trentside last summer to sign for Greek club Olympiacos, ending his stay at Forest after just one season.

The 32-year-old made just 21 more appearances before suffering another long-term injury, rupturing a cruciate knee ligament in February.

He is currently recovering from the injury, after having an operation two months ago, and went to visit his family shortly before the lockdown measures came into force.

Now the former Forest forward says he is currently unable to return to Greece, but insists he is still able to take part in the recovery work required by Olympiacos.

“I came to visit my brother Samir and his family, and then stayed – blocked! I could no longer return to Athens,” Soudani told Sportsky Novosti, in a translated interview.

“I have a program that I work on, I manage, I am constantly in training. I'm fine here with my brother, his wife and two of their children. I have everything I need to train at home, I stock up.

“Everyone at the club has the utmost confidence in me, people trust me, they understand the situation.

“They know I train, I talk all the time and I'm in contact with an Olympiacos doctor. I tell him everything I do, how I progress, he gives me advice, everything is great.

“Well, it's not my fault that the crisis measures were brought and that I had to stay in Zagreb.

“At the time I came to visit my brother and family, they were not yet in effect.”
