Former Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi 'interested' in buying Bolton hotel

Former Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi is reportedly interested in buying The Bolton Whites Hotel.

It is said the sale of the hotel, which is fully integrated into Bolton Wanderers’ stadium, could impact on the takeover of the football club.

According to the Bolton News, a number of parties have registered their interest in buying the hotel, including two commercial chains and a number of individuals – with Al Hasawi said to be the latest.

The Kuwaiti sold the Reds to Evangelos Marinakis in 2017 after almost five years at the helm.

Administrators at the hotel yesterday released a statement, with insolvency firm Quantuma saying it could be six to eight weeks before a sale is completed.

The Bolton News reports the Football Ventures consortium have all-but completed the process of buying Wanderers, but have delayed making an announcement as they try to buy both businesses concurrently.

And the statement from Quantuma suggests they are only part-way through that process.

Al Hasawi arrived at the City Ground with good intentions and grand ambitions, but his time on the banks of the River Trent ended acrimoniously, with fans protesting against his reign.

Forest endured a Financial Fair Play transfer embargo while he was at the helm and worked their way through a flurry of managers, as his era ended with the club in the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Bolton were relegated from the Championship last season, amid a troubling end to the campaign which saw their final day clash with the Reds thrown into doubt at one stage.
