Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury could get massive pay rise despite Aston Villa struggles

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury might have struggled at Aston Villa, but he could be set for a major wage rise.

The 28-year-old has suffered an injury-hit second full season at Villa, playing only five times.

In fact, he has only featured 35 times for them since joining from the Reds in January 2017 for around £3m.

Nonetheless, he is set to see a weekly pay packet reportedly worth £40,000 a week, go up significantly, if Villa win the Championship play-off final against Derby.

Nottingham Forest to face Greek club as part of pre-season preparations

The Mirror, who do not report a figure for the rise, say former owner Dr Tony Xia included contract clauses in a number of signings as he splashed out when he bought the club.

Ross McCormack, Scott Hogan, Gary Gardner and James Bree - all of who are well down the pecking order - are other players who could benefit.

McCormack once endured a miserable loan spell at the City Ground, with his career falling apart since he joined Villa. His wage will rise to £70,000 a week if Villa win at Wembley.

Gardner also spent time on loan at Forest, winning over supporters to a much greater degree. He is set for a 'hefty' rise on his salary, although no figure is given.

The Mirror say new owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris will want a compromise over several of those deals to limit the damage which could be as much as £4m at present.
