Former Nottingham Forest man set for Mansfield Town move

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Stephen McLaughlin is expected to become the latest addition at Nottinghamshire neighbours Mansfield Town.

McLaughlin, who was signed by Forest in 2013 from Derry City, struggled to make an impact at the City Ground and moved to Southend United after his release by the Reds, having made just 12 appearances in his three years

During his stay in Nottinghamshire, he had loan spells at Notts County, Bristol City and Southend before making his move to the Shrimpers permanent in 2015.

The Irishman’s contract at Roots Hall came to an end last month, and has yet to pen a new one despite the Shrimpers’ best efforts to keep him, and a move to the Stags appears likely.

Should he move to Field Mill, the 30-year-old would link up with former United assistant boss Graham Coughlan who has already been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing four players in preparation for the new League Two campaign.

The winger was signed by former owner Fawaz Al Hasawi during McLeish's 40-day reign as boss for £160,000 with the Kuwaiti applauding his arrival.

"Stephen is an exciting young talent who has been attracting attention from a number of other English clubs," said Al Hasawi at the time.

"We are delighted he is joining us and look forward to helping him develop his career and fulfilling his great potential."
