Former Nottingham Forest loanee could be playing Champions League football with new club

Former Nottingham Forest loanee Saidy Janko could be playing Champions League football next season.

The 23-year-old has made the move back to his native Switzerland to join Young Boys on a season-long loan.

Last term, the Bern-based outfit stormed to the league title by an immense 20-point margin over their nearest rivals Basel, allowing them to qualify for the play-off round of next season's UEFA Champions League.

And ex-Manchester United man Janko could be a regular fixture at right-back next season as they look to defend their league title, after first-choice Kevin Mbabu left to join German side Wolfsburg.

Janko, who has previously had stints with Barnsley, Bolton and Celtic, joined Porto back in 2018, but never played a game for the Portuguese giants.

Instead, he headed straight to the City Ground on loan, but after the appointment of Martin O'Neill his game time quickly diminished as he fell behind Tendayi Darikwa and Sam Byram in the pecking order.

His final game in Garibaldi came in April's 2-1 defeat to Rotherham United.
