Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow sees Birmingham switch rejected

Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow has been the subject of an enquiry from Birmingham City but it has been rejected by Newcastle.

The Blues wanted the Toon stopper, but the Magpies turned it down because they see him as valuable back-up to Martin Dubravka.

The Sun has claimed that boss Aitor Karanka cannot finance a permanent bid for Darlow, while sorting the funds required for a loan deal has also become a problem.

The Spaniard, who spent time as manager at Forest, is now set to switch his attentions elsewhere as he looks to bring a goalkeeper to St Andrew's having released Lee Camp at the end of last season.

Darlow has been at St James's Park since 2014 when he left Forest to make the move north along with former Red Jamal Lascelles.

But in the six years he has spent on Tyneside he has made 64 appearances.

It has been claimed that Darlow's contract at Newcastle runs out at the end of this season.
