Former Nottingham Forest favourite makes move to Turkey - and new club salutes his City Ground spell

Former Nottingham Forest fans’ favourite Eric Lichaj has made the move to Turkey.

The defender was a free agent after leaving Hull City this summer and has now signed for Fatih Karagumruk.

The American was released by the Tigers at the end of June, as the Championship season restarted, having failed to agree new terms with the club.

He turned down the opportunity to pen a short-term deal which would allow him to see out the final nine games of the campaign at the KCOM Stadium.

And he has now agreed a two-year contract with the newly-promoted Super Lig side.

Fatih Karagumruk announced his arrival with a highlights video from his time in English football, including clips from his five years at the City Ground.

Lichaj left the Reds in 2018 to join Hull, after making more than 170 league appearances in the Garibaldi.

His switch to Turkey ends a 13-year stay in English football, as he first crossed the Atlantic in 2007, joining Aston Villa from Chicago Fire.

During his spell at Villa Park, the 31-year-old full-back also had loan spells at Lincoln City, Leyton Orient and Leeds United.

Alongside a picture of himself giving the thumbs up at his new club, Lichaj wrote on Twitter: “Ready for all the new challenges!”
