Former Nottingham Forest loanee Jack Colback is a free agent, after being released by Newcastle United.
The midfielder, who could be on the Reds’ radar this summer, has not played for the Magpies this season and is now on the lookout for a new club.
Colback has enjoyed two successful loan spells at the City Ground and was a target for Forest last summer while Martin O’Neill was still in charge.
He remained at Newcastle, but was left out of Steve Bruce’s Premier League squad and has not played a competitive game for more than a year - his last appearance coming in the Garibaldi, in the 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United in April 2019.
The 30-year-old recently suffered a bad injury which he picked up in training, having continued to work with his United teammates despite not having a squad number or any prospect of match action at a weekend.
Bruce had come close to handing him a squad place last summer and says he is confident Colback and Jamie Sterry, who has also been released, will quickly get snapped up.
"I feel for Jack a little bit and I wish him the best of luck,” the Newcastle manager said.
"He's gone through a tough time.
"He took a horrible injury, which he's over. I hope he gets on with his career, and Jamie, and they find a career for themselves.
"They are good pros and I wish them well."
It is said Colback could be a target for the Reds this summer, if they fail to tie Ben Watson down to a new deal as the midfield general comes towards the end of his contract.
Watson has agreed to stay on to see out the rest of the campaign with Forest, but has yet to pen fresh terms beyond that.
