Former Nottingham Forest defender set for move to India to link up with Liverpool legend

Former Nottingham Forest defender Danny Fox looks set for a move to the Indian Super League.

The 34-year-old is said to have been offered a lucrative deal to join East Bengal, a newly-formed side set to be managed by Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler.

Fox signed a short-term deal with Wigan Athletic last month, but seems to have played his last game for the club - having pulled out of the squad on the eve of Saturday's 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers, when he was down to play.

He is said to have been offered a longer contract with the Latics last week, but has opted to finish his career overseas.

Manager John Sheridan explained the situation to Wigan Today: “We offered Danny a deal, but he’s got other things in the pipeline.

“Danny was in the team and down to play, then I found out at 7pm on Friday he wasn’t available.

“It was a bit of a funny one... I’ve only been here a few weeks so I don’t really know the players... but I don’t feel it was the right way, the way it went.”

Fox made close to 130 appearances for the Reds, initially joining on loan from Southampton before completing a permanent switch.

He left the City Ground to head to Wigan in January 2019.

Sheridan added: “I still feel we need one or two more players to make ourselves stronger.

“I’ve already said we needed people up top but now, with Danny going, we’re probably looking at another left-sided defender.”
