Former defender Alan Rogers says Stuart Pearce gave him a warm - but terrifying - welcome at Nottingham Forest, after arguably being signed to replace the legendary left-back.
Rogers joined Forest in 1997 from Tranmere Rovers for around £2m, shortly before Pearce went to Newcastle United after the Reds had been relegated.
He says Pearce gave him tremendous confidence after stepping up, but his nickname of Psycho was well deserved based on his work in training.
"I was 18 and it was a big money move back then. He was brilliant when I got there," he told the Under the Cosh podcast.
"He took me under his wing. I loved him growing up.
"I didn't realise how fearsome he was. The first week at training he was smashing people, steaming into players.
"I didn't mind a tackle but he was on another level. No one said a word to him.
"I used to train hard, but when I used to watch him, he's exactly the same as he was on the pitch.
"He was a hard man. I came in to replace him. He went to Newcastle, but he was brilliant to me.
"He made me feel like he chose me to replace him. He built me up.
"I was only a kid and he really lifted me."
