Former Nottingham Forest defender released by League Two's Forest Green Rovers

Former Nottingham Forest defender Matt Mills has been released by League Two's Forest Green Rovers. - but the club have offered a deal to his younger brother.

The 33-year-old made only 21 appearances this season for the Nailsworth outfit after penning a one-year deal with them in the summer.

Rovers were his third club since leaving the City Ground in 2018, having turned out for Barnsley and Pune City in the meanwhile.

During his time on Trentside, Mills mate 82 appearances and was made captain by caretaker boss Gary Brazil before a groin injury sidelined him for the rest of Brazil's tenure.

And he has now been named on the club's released list.

But Forest Green owner Dale Vince has offered Mills' younger brother Joseph a new deal at the New Lawn.

The left-back, three years his brother's junior, has scored 12 goals in 70 league outings for the green army and was a key player for FGR in a season that saw them finish nine points adrift of the play-offs.

Meanwhile, Forest will wait until their season is complete before releasing their released and retained list.

The club have a long list of players out of contract including popular midfielder Ben Watson.
