Former Nottingham Forest defender Joel Lynch is said to be on trial with Bolton Wanderers as he looks to find a new club.
The 33-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Sunderland last summer and was reportedly close to signing for Southend United until last week.
However, he has now been training with Wanderers for the last few days, according to the Bolton News, as he tries to earn himself a deal.
Lynch could have joined Bolton before the start of the season, but it is said “the player was looking to play as high up the football pyramid as possible” and trained with Charlton Athletic, with a view to securing a move there.
Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has said he has an “experienced” defender on trial, and there was a chance of a deal being done.
Lynch first joined the Reds on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2008, going on to make the move on a permanent basis.
He left the City Ground in 2012 for Huddersfield Town, then went on to play for QPR and the Black Cats.
His last competitive game was a League One clash for Sunderland last March, when they drew 2-2 against Gillingham.
