Former Nottingham Forest defender Matt Mills joins Forest Green Rovers as player-coach

Ex-Nottingham Forest centre-back Matt Mills has returned to English football with Forest Green Rovers as a player-coach.

The League Two outfit have landed the 32-year-old on a one-year deal after his free transfer from Indian Super League side Pune City.

Formerly of Manchester City, Leicester and Coventry, Mills turned out 87 times for the Reds during his two-and-a-half year City Ground stint.

Now he hopes to help guide Rovers, who missed out on promotion via the play-offs last season, into League One for the first time in their history.

The move will also see Mills reunited with his brother, Joseph.

"I came and trained with Forest Green at the end of last season and really enjoyed my time," Mills told the club's website.

“The manager is absolutely fantastic and was a big selling point for me and having my brother here as well is nice.

“Forest Green are my follow team on my Sky Sports app, so I’ve kept in the loop all season and watched them for a few games before I went to India.

“They were unfortunate not to get promoted this year but next year, hopefully we’ll go one step further.”
