Former Nottingham Forest boss takes up new job

Former Nottingham Forest boss Philippe Montanier has a new job.

The 56-year-old is now back in his homeland, having been appointed manager of French side Toulouse this afternoon.

Montanier had been out of work since he was axed by Belgian outfit Standard Liege last December.

But he has now agreed a two-year deal with Toulouse, where he had a spell as a player, between 1994 and 1997, and as assistant coach earlier in his career.

He replaces the sacked Patrice Garande in the dugout and will be joined by Michael Debeve, who he worked with at Lens, as his No.2.

Montanier spent less than seven months in charge of the Reds. But his spell in charge proved to be a disaster, in terms of recruitment and results on the pitch.

He took to the helm in the summer of 2016, but was given the boot the following January.

He went on to take up roles with France’s Under-20 team and Lens, before joining Liege a year ago.

Prior to his switch to the City Ground, he had held posts at Caen, Bastia, Boulogne, Valenciennes, Real Sociedad and Rennes, as well as with the Ivory Coast national side.

Announcing the appointment, Toulouse said: “Philippe Montanier will be the new coach of Toulouse Football Club. He will wear our colours for the next two seasons.”

He is due to link up with his players this week, when they return for pre-season training.
