Former boss Sabri Lamouchi has spoken about the transfer which got away while he was in charge at Nottingham Forest.
The Frenchman oversaw significant recruitment during his time in charge at the City Ground, including the last window, when 13 players arrived, before he was sacked last month following a miserable start to the season.
Lamouchi has now discussed a player he wanted to sign for the Reds 12 months earlier, in the summer of 2019.
Sevilla defender Joris Gnagnon was on his list of targets for the 49-year-old’s first campaign at the helm.
And Lamouchi says he made contact with the former France Under-21 international, who he worked with at Rennes, trying to persuade him to make the move Trentside.
“They (Forest) asked me for positions to be reinforced, and I put Gnagnon's name on the list,” Lamouchi, who is now manager at Qatari side Al Duhail, told Sevilla.abc.
“I want him, I told my club.
“I spoke with him, everything was settled, but, suddenly, on the last day, practically, he said no, that he better stay at Sevilla.
“We, in England, closed the transfer market on August 6. I did not understand.
“Honestly, I think it would have been very good if we were together again. Shortly after he would go back to Rennes (on loan).”
