Former Nottingham Forest boss departs Championship rivals

Former Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka’s time as Birmingham City boss has come to end after just eight months in charge.

BirminghamLive understands Blues have parted ways with the Spaniard after a wretched run of form that has left the club in danger of relegation to League One.

Speaking after the 3-0 defeat to Bristol City on Saturday, Karanka laughed off suggestions he would resign, saying there is “no chance” he would walk from his post.

But a decision has been made with just 10 matches of the Championship season left to play.

Karanka’s departure has not yet been confirmed by the club, with an announcement expected to follow on Monday.

The club sits just one place above the relegation zone, three points ahead of Rotherham United though Blues have a significantly worse goal difference than the Millers and they’ve played four more games.

Karanka was in charge at Forest for a year from early January 2018 to January 2019.
