Former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka lands new job

Former Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has been appointed as manager of Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Following a brief recent spell at Granada, the 49-year-old has agreed a one-and-a-half year deal at Maccabi, which will run until the summer of 2024. Karanka will be joined by assistant coach Igor Alexandre Gameiro Dias, Juan Torrijo and Carlos Luengo Pena as his backroom staff while the goalkeeper coach will be confirmed in due course.

The Spaniard will be in charge of his first game on Saturday when the Yellows host Ashdod. Speaking after his appointment, Karanka said: "I am proud and excited to be here as part of Maccabi Tel Aviv - a club with such a rich tradition and history. I thank Mitch for the trust he placed in me and my team.

"From my first conversation I understood how much ambitions the club has and what the required expectations are. I will give I do everything to promote the team, to make sure that Maccabi continues to move forward and to give a sense of pride to the fans.

"We have already started work and I will be focused from the first moment on achieving the goals of the club."

Maccabi's owner Mitch Goldhar added: "I am delighted to welcome Aitor Karanka to the club. He comes with the experience, both as a player and a Coach, as well as the necessary hunger to achieve results. We are excited to begin our work together."
