'Tough to attract' - Former Nottingham Forest boss could be contender for Bristol City job

Former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka could be a contender to replace Lee Johnson at Bristol City.

The Robins axed Johnson at the weekend following the 1-0 defeat at home to Cardiff which left them 12th in the Championship table.

City are now seeking his replacement with Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe and former Brighton chief Chris Hughton among the favourites.

But City reporter for Bristol Live, Gregor MacGregor, did not rule the club out of moving for Karanka as they contemplate moving for a foreign manager.

Speaking to fans on his Q+A to City fans, said that while Karanka may be difficult to attract, the club does have links with his former agent Jorge Mendes having signed one of his players.

He wrote: "Yes on Karanka and Jokanovic. But both might be tough to attract - although the idea of a longer-term project may be attractive, as per below.

"Jorge Mendes is a former agent of Karanka, so there is that link.

"On Jokanovic, I can add that he was a genuinely nice guy when we spoke to him in press conferences and came over very well, and has done well in the Championship.

"He would be good, in my opinion, but has a job already - Qatari club Al-Gharafa - and it may take significant compensation."

Karanka left Nottingham Forest in January 2019, a year and three days after he was appointed.

He requested to be released from his contract at the City Ground leaving the Reds four points behind the play-off places.
