Former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka rules out return rumours

Former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka has ruled out making a return to assistant management.

The Spanish coach was linked with a job at Tottenham Hotspur, linking up with his former boss Jose Mourinho by reports.

The duo took charge of Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, winning La Liga, the Copa Del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.

After Mourinho left the Bernabeu the pair went their separate ways with Karanka landing a role with Middlesbrough before his arrival at the City Ground.

But Karanka has told TalkSPORT that he would not return to assistant management as his hunt continues for a first-team role.

Karanka said: “I don’t think so. I have my own career," ruling out a return to Mourinho's backroom staff.

“Jose knows I would help him and he would help me but it’s in the past. But we have our own careers now.”

Karanka left Forest in 2019, just a year after joining the club, with the Reds four points outside the play-off places.
