Nottingham Forest 's former assistant manager David Weir is in the running to land a major sporting director role in Scotland, according to the Scottish Daily Mail .
The 49-year-old's name has been mentioned in a short list to replace the outgoing Craig Levein at Hearts.
Weir, a former central defender, made 76 appearances for the club during the late nineties before being snapped up by Premier League Everton.
After seven years on Merseyside he moved back to Scotland with Rangers before ending his playing career in 2012.
His coaching career started in the youth ranks at Everton and almost landed a role as first-team manager in 2013 but was pipped to the post by Roberto Martinez.
From there he became Sheffield United manager but following an unsuccessful tenure he was dismissed and opted to team up with Mark Warburton at Brentford where the duo struck a strong partnership that led him back to Ibrox and the City Ground .
Whilst his name has been mentioned, he is far from the leading candidate with current Hearts interim boss Austin MacPhee the most likely to land the role.
