Former Nottingham Forest player Garath McCleary has commented on Derby County’s dispute with the EFL amid uncertainty over the make-up of the Championship for the upcoming season.
The prospect of the Rams and McCleary’s current club, Wycombe Wanderers, trading places remains a possibility after the EFL confirmed it had devised an interchangeable fixture list.
As it stands, Derby will be in the Championship, with the Chairboys in League One after the teams finished fourth-bottom and third-bottom respectively in the Championship in May.
But that could change if the Rams are hit with a retrospective points penalty for last season, which could still happen after the club was found to have breached financial rules.
The saga is verging on the farcical so close to the new campaign, which kicks off on August 7.
And Wycombe’s McCleary has given his take on the situation on social media.
“Dangle that (carrot emoji) … I suppose it will delay and delay and delay to a point nothing will be resolved….#TakeTheCarrot #OrNot,” tweeted the former Nottingham Forest winger.
“Is there anywhere with best information to read about this case and Sheffield Wednesdays case where deductions occurred for more understanding?”
