Former Nottingham Forest academy graduate joins 17th club

Ex-Nottingham Forest youngster Spencer Weir-Daley has a new club, a 17th of a near-20 year career.

The 34-year-old from Leicester has agreed to join Northern Premier League outfit Spalding United on a dual-registration from parent club Peterborough Sports.

Foxes fan Daley impressed on his debut over the weekend, playing as a trialist in the Tulips’ 4-1 friendly victory over Holbeach United, bagging a brace.

Daley came through the ranks at the City Ground having joined the club at the age of 10, before going on to make his debut against Macclesfield Town in a League Cup tie.

His first goal for the Reds was one to remember, coming in a 3-1 victory on his league debut away at Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium.

After spells on loan at Macclesfield, Lincoln and Bradford, Daley moved across the River Trent to join the Reds’ city rivals Notts County where he spent two seasons before dropping out of the Football League to move to Boston United.

Since then, Daley, a former Montserrat international, has racked up a number of clubs including Hednesford Town, Rushden and Diamonds and Kettering.

Daley is expected to start Tuesday night’s FA Cup qualifying round clash with Barton Town Old Boys.
