Former Northern Ireland international Chris Brunt joins Bristol City

Former Northern Ireland international Chris Brunt has joined Bristol City.

Brunt has agreed a one-year deal with the Championship club.

The 35-year-old - who was recently released by newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion - becomes Dean Holden's fourth signing of the transfer window.

Brunt spent 13 seasons with West Brom and helped them earn promotion to the Premier League on three separate occasions.

He was crowned Baggies’ Player of the Year in 2008/09.

Holden said: “It’s brilliant to have secured Chris’ services because he is a player who is going to be very useful to us on and off the field.

“He’s technically very good, with an accurate pass, and a leader with a strong voice who will be a great teacher to the younger players.

"That is important to the development of this squad and I’m really looking forward to working with Chris in the season ahead.”

Brunt - who won 65 caps for Northern Ireland - retired from international football in 2018 after missing out on the World Cup.

He had been linked with a move to Michael O'Neill's Stoke City in the January transfer window and again this summer but finished the season with West Brom.
