Former No. 1 wrestling recruit Greg Kerkvliet to transfer from Ohio State

The Ohio State wrestling team may have lost a big piece of its future.

According to a report from Eleven Warriors, former No. 1 overall recruit Greg Kerkfliet has entered the transfer portal and will look to move on from the program. It is not known which direction he is leaning, but it was confirmed to the Ohio State fan site earlier Friday. He has yet to even step onto the mat in Columbus.

This is a decent blow for a program that’s still reeling from former Buckeye heavyweight, Olympic, and World Champion Kyle Snyder’s decision to move his training to Happy Valley. In fact, the two decisions may be linked. It was widely considered a selling factor for Kerkvliet when he changed his commitment from his home state University of Minnesota, to Oklahoma State to Ohio State.

These are certainly not the types of things the program wants to be dealing with. Not only has it opened some of the best facilities in the world as of late, it’s also set to open the season in East Lansing for the Michigan State Open Saturday.
