Former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett gets a chance at redemption with the Rockets

As of 2019, Anthony Bennett is known for being an epic NBA Draft bust – but the former No. 1 overall pick may receive a chance to change his legacy this season with the Houston Rockets. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Friday that Bennett landed a non-guaranteed deal with Houston.

Bennett’s last appearance in the NBA came in January of 2017 with the Brooklyn Nets, but to his credit, he’s continued to work on his game in the NBA G-League. In his 151 career NBA games, Bennett was largely a liability on both ends of the court, and never lived up to the hype as a projected explosive scorer.

In the past two years, however, Bennett has become an dangerous outside shooter at his position in the G-League, and if he can put up the same type of numbers against NBA competition, he could prove to be a valuable asset in the Rockets’ three-happy system.

NBA career averages: 12.6 minutes, 4.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.4 steals, .39 FG%, .26 3P%, 0.2 3PM

2018-19 G-League averages: 20.9 minutes, 12.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.9 steals, .54 FG%, .45 3P%, 2.1 3PM

Many fans seem to be rooting for Bennett to succeed, while others are taking the opportunity to poke fun at Carmelo Anthony.
