Plans to knock down a former nightclub and restaurant in Ellesmere Port to make way for a new food store have been approved.
The old Saffron Indian restaurant and Club Xes premises on Flatt Lane is best known as being the former Viscount pub. According to Cheshire Live, Central England Co-op (CEC), owners of the old Saffron Indian restaurant and Club Xes premises, intend to build a new food store with an in-house bakery on the site.
Last week, an application for prior approval of demolition had been submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council on behalf of the applicant. However, the planning department responded by saying "additional information" was required in relation to the proposed redevelopment of the site given its prominence.
Further details have been provided and the council has now given the demolition plans the go-ahead.

Approval was granted subject to the following condition: "No demolition works shall take place on the site until full details and a phased programme of works relating to the restoration of the site has been submitted to and approved in writing by the Local Planning Authority. The site shall be restored fully in accordance with the approved programme of works following demolition."
A spokesperson for Central England Co-op (CEC) added: "Our proposals for a new community food store in Whitby Road, Ellesmere Port, would represent a major investment by CEC and provide local employment as well as a valuable retail resource for the community.
"Our plans would see the creation of a modern, sustainable food store that would complement the character and heritage of the area and offer features such as self-checkouts, an in-store bakery, an extensive food-to-go offer and ample car parking."
