Former NFL star Dana Stubblefield found guilty of rape

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield was found guilty of rape Monday after an incident that took place April 9, 2015, authorities confirm.

Stubblefield was convicted of forcible rape of a developmentally disabled woman while using a gun. He faces a sentence of 15 years to life in prison. Stubblefield is due back in court on Aug. 29.

The incident involved a woman who came to Stubblefield’s home believing she was going to be interviewed as a possible babysitter. The woman was developmentally disabled and the incident took place in Morgan Hill, California.

Stubblefield was drafted in the first round (26th overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. In his rookie year, Stubblefield led the 49ers with 10.5 sacks, becoming the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

He appeared in the Pro Bowl in 1994, a season the Niners won the Super Bowl. and ’95. In 1997, he recorded 15 sacks and was named 1997’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year by The Associated Press.

After the 1997 season, he became an unrestricted free agent and signed with Washington Redskins, He returned to San Francisco in 2001 and 2002, and played with the Oakland Raiders as a free agent in 2003. In 2004, he was signed by the New England Patriots, but he was injured and was released before the start of the season.
