Former NFL scout believes Raiders SS Johnathan Abram can be a ‘tone-setter’

While the Antonio Brown saga continues to play out in the headlines, there is plenty of other topics to discuss in Raiders land. One of which is at safety, where rookie safety Johnathan Abram continues to impress with every snap.

In a recent piece at the Touchdown Wire, former NFL scout Matt Williamson wrote about what Abram can do for the Raiders’ defense as a rookie. Take a look at why he believes the 27th overall pick can be a crucial part of Oakland’s defense in 2019:

Another Raiders first-round pick, Johnathan Abram, also showed up in an impressive fashion in this contest. He flies around the field with aggression and passion. As he learns to play within himself, Abram can be a tone-setter for this defense that is looking for an identity.

At one point in the offseason, it appeared Abram was going to have to battle former 2016 first-round pick Karl Joseph for playing time. However, Abram is firmly planted as the team’s strong safety, with Joseph rotating in when Lamarcus Joyner moves to the slot.

Abram has been arguably the most impressive rookie from the 2019 draft class and should play a ton as a rookie. Look for the former Mississippi State Bulldog to compete for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.
