Former NFL QB Peyton Manning considers Titans ‘a team to be reckoned with’

The idea of going from “good to great” has been a big part of this offseason for the Tennessee Titans.

Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning is one person who believes the team will be able to do just that in 2019.

Manning praised controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk for her efforts, and recalled how things were when he played against the Titans.

“The Titans — they’re a team to be reckoned with now in the AFC,” Manning said in a report by the team’s Jim Wyatt. “And it’s a real credit to (Amy Adams Strunk) and for her having a great vision to get them to where they are today with a head coach like Mike Vrabel. This is a football town. The Tennessee Titans I competed against, with Steve McNair and Eddie George, I know what it is like here when things are rolling, and I think with Mike Vrabel the Titans are in a great position and she deserves a lot of credit for that.”

Manning has faith in the coaching staff, the management and quarterback Marcus Mariota — who heads into a pivotal season on the fifth and final year of his rookie deal.

“I like Mike Vrabel, and I like (GM) Jon Robinson. I’m a Marcus Mariota fan. So I think they’ll have a great year.”

After finishing 9-7 for the past three seasons and just narrowly missing the playoff last season, the Titans have a lot to prove if they wish to be taken seriously as postseason contenders.

Only time will tell if they’re up to the task when the season kicks off in the fall.
