Former Newcastle United striker Yoshinori Muto finds goal touch in Japan alongside Andres Iniesta

Former Newcastle United striker Yoshinori Muto is on a scoring streak with his new club after leaving Tyneside for good last month.

Muto was sold by Newcastle to J-League side Vissel Kobe in August, and earlier today scored his second goal for the team, albeit in a 3-1 loss to Kawasaki Frontale.

The goal began with a through-ball by former Barcelona star Andrés Iniesta, who joined Vissel Kobe in 2018. Another summer signing Yuya Osako then controlled the pass and played the ball across the six-yard box, where Muto put it into the net.

It is the second goal in a matter of days for the 29-year-old, who scored a diving header last week in his new team’s 2-0 win over Shimizu S-Pulse. That was his debut goal for the club, having returned to the league where he started his career last month.

Muto said after that match: ”It feels great. It's really positive as I've returned aiming to get goals and assists that directly influence the result.”

Tokyo-born Muto began his career at FC Tokyo before being signed by German side Mainz 05, where he scored 23 goals in 72 appearances, including as a substitute.

He then moved to Newcastle in 2018, but the move never worked out for the club or player, with Muto making only ten starts in all competitions and 18 appearances from the bench.

In total the striker scored twice for Newcastle, the first being against Manchester United in the Premier League and the other against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

He spent last season on loan with Eibar in Spain's La Liga.
