Former Newcastle United star Joey Barton reportedly set to star in Sky Sports documentary

Former Newcastle United midfielder is set to star in a Sky Sports documentary.

Mail Online report that the sports broadcaster are close to securing the rights to an uncensored, behind the scenes look at his time in charge of Fleetwood so far.

Cameras have been rolling at the Lancashire club throughout Barton's first two seasons in charge and the documentary would give a no holds barred look into the Cod Army's bid for promotion to the Championship this term.

Fleetwood are in the League One play-offs and Barton's second season in management could end up in promotion to the second tier.

The report claims Barton has been wearing a microphone throughout and there will be 'minimal filtering or censorship'.

Sky refused to comment but it is believed a deal is a 'formality' and the show could air later this year.

Barton remains one of the game's most divisive characters and he has never been shy at airing his opinion. He is still remembered fondly on Tyneside for his four-year stay at Newcastle United.

The outspoken scouser has never been far away from controversy - both on and off the field - and has ruffled a few feathers on Wearside this season for his comments about Sunderland and their poor record against him as a manager.
