Former Newcastle United player named in richest 20 sport stars on Sunday Times Rich List 2019

The top 20 richest sports stars in the UK have been revealed.

And former Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll comes in at No 14.

The new edition of The Sunday Times Rich List will be published this Sunday, May 12 and it reveals the wealth of the 1,000 richest people in Britain.

Rory McIlroy is the richest young sports star aged 30 and under in Britain and Ireland, according to the study.

Rising to second place this year is Wales’s record goal scorer and four-time Champions League winner, Gareth Bale.

The first of 15 footballers in the list, Bale, 29, has played for Spanish team Real Madrid for six years, signing for £85m in 2013.

Born in Cardiff, Bale’s contract with Real Madrid is worth £18.2m a year after tax.

Taken with several lucrative endorsement deals, his net worth rises by £20m this year, taking the winger to £94m.

Three of the richest young footballers this year made the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year.

Sergio Aguero, ranked third at £58m, is Manchester City’s record goal scorer with more than 200 goals, prompting sponsor Puma into gifting him a pair of gold-coloured football boots.

Aguero earns about £15m a year, including a weekly salary of £250,000.

He is joined in the PFA Team of the Year by Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, who saw his net worth rise by £12m this year.

Pogba, who ranks eighth in the Young Sports Stars Rich List, was a World Cup winner with France last year, and has played for Manchester United since 2016 on a £290,000-a-week contract.

Now worth £37m, Pogba has a 10-year sponsorship deal with Adidas and is known for his collection of fast cars including a Ferrari 812 worth around £250,000.

Raheem Sterling is the third member of the PFA team on the Young Sports Stars Rich List.

The Manchester City star has enjoyed a stellar season, capped by scoring his first hat-trick for England and emerging as an eloquent leader of the fight against racism in football.

He signed a new contract with City last November worth £300,000 a week and enters the Rich List for the first time with wealth put at £18m.

The only non-footballer in the list, other than Rory McIlroy, is boxing world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who saw a £14m increase in wealth this year.

Of the remaining footballers on the list, three join the Young Sports Stars Rich List for the first time this year.

Alongside Raheem Sterling is his England team-mate and captain Harry Kane.

He has a long-term contract at Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur worth £200,000 a week.

A one-club player, 25-year-old Kane won the Golden Boot award as the leading scorer in last year’s World Cup, and he enters the list with a £16m fortune and the potential for a lot more to come.

The final newcomer this year is ex-Baggies star Romelu Lukaku, the Manchester United striker who is also valued at £16m, having joined the club in 2017 on a contract worth £7.8m a year.
