Former Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback re-signs for Nottingham Forest

Jack Colback has re-signed for Nottingham Forest following his release by Newcastle United this summer.

The former Sunderland midfielder enjoyed two loan spells at the City Ground after falling out of favour on Tyneside under former boss Rafa Benitez.

Former George Stephenson High School pupil Colback made the controversial switch from Wearside in 2014, and went on to make 102 appearances for the club he supported as a boy.

The 30-year-old was an important member of the side which secured an instant top-flight return under Benitez in 2017, but was excluded from the team photo for the following campaign.

Colback initially joined Forest on loan in January 2018, and made more than 50 appearances for the club after securing a second loan spell.

The arrival of Steve Bruce last summer offered the midfielder a fresh opportunity to impress, but late transfer activity saw him omitted from the Magpies' squad.

However, Colback continued to train with the first-team squad and was praised by the head coach upon his release.

Bruce said: "I feel for Jack a little bit and I wish him the best of luck. He's gone through a tough time.

"He took a horrible injury which he's over, I hope he gets on with his career."
