Former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew nets huge bonus after Dutch FA's controversial ruling

Former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has led a charmed life in his previous two jobs.

The former Magpies boss avoided adding West Brom's relegation to his managerial CV after he was sacked just before their fate was sealed, with Darren Moore instead taking the reigns as they dropped to the Championship.

Well, lightning has indeed struck twice but in even more peculiar circumstances this time.

The Dutch FA announced on Friday that there would be no promotion or relegation from or to the Eredivisie for the 2019/20 season.

Whilst most focused on the heartbreak for Ajax who denied the title despite leading the table on goal difference from AZ Alkmaar, somewhere, it can only be presumed, Pardew was reenacting his famous little dance.

Why? Well, that decision has netted the former Crystal Palace man a cool £100,000 bonus from ADO den Haag after successfully keeping the Dutch club in the Eredivisie.

The league minnows were seven points adrift of safety with eight games remaining and seemed destined for relegation, until this dramatic decision.

The news hasn't gone down well and has been met with the threat of legal action from some clubs and labelled as a "disgrace".

Pardew won his first game in charge but then led the club on a seven-match run without a win before football was postponed in Holland.

However, KNVB's decision means ADO will remain in the Eredivisie and Pardew has effectively completed his task to earn a six-figure windfall.

Pardew is contracted with the club until the end of the season and it remains to be seen if he will be rewarded with an extension.
