Former Newcastle striker tweets message of support for Pompey ahead of Sunderland play-off

Remember Lomana LuaLua? The ex-Newcastle United striker made famous for his backflip goal celebration is backing his former club Portsmouth to beat Sunderland tonight and advance to the League One play-off final.

LuaLua first made his name in English football at St James' Park, after signing from Colchester in 2000.

He went on to make 80 appearances for the Magpies over four seasons, before joining Portsmouth after a loan spell on the south coast.

And ahead of the Fratton Park side's play-off second leg with Sunderland tonight, LuaLua tweeted: "Nothing is impossible, so let's all be #1 and let's make it a blue day tomorrow. Come on boys!  We can do this. #playuppompey #frattonpark @officialpompey #pompey’."

The DR Congo international also replied to a few Pompey fans on Twitter. One fan asked if LuaLua fancied playing tonight, to which the striker replied "I wish mate". Another fan asked if he would be at the game: "Physically no, but spiritually yes."

Sunderland fans may also remember Lomana LuaLua’s brother Kazenga LuaLua who made a handful of underwhelming appearances on loan for the Black Cats last season.

Sunderland take a 1-0 aggregate lead down south with them tonight, courtesy of Chris Maguire’s fine goal on Wearside at the weekend, but the former Pompey favourite is confident his old employers can overturn the deficit.
