Former Newcastle star set for unlikely transfer as pundit delivers former Toon target verdict

The latest Newcastle United transfer round-up on Friday, September 16.

Former Toon favourite set for Tunisia move

Once one of the Premier League’s true entertainers, Hatem Ben Arfa looks set for a move to Tunisian side Espérance Sportive de Tunis on a free transfer.

The former Magpies midfielder was linked with several European moves throughout the summer transfer window but is now on the verge of a deal with the African Champions League side.

The club themselves teased the new signing on Twitter on Tuesday evening…

With reported European interest, it is far from the move many would have expected of Ben Arfa but it represents a new challenge, something he has often been keen to explore.

Newcastle target tipped for big transfer

One of the many players that was linked with a move to St James’ Park over the summer that ultimately came to nothing was highly-rated Marseille youngster Boubacar Kamara.

Amid interest from a few Premier League clubs late in the transfer window, the France U21 international opted to stay in Ligue 1.

Speaking to La Provence in France, former Marseille left-back Éric De Meco spoke of his relief to see the midfielder remain with his boyhood club whilst claiming he will eventually be set for a high-profile move.

“The day after transfer deadline day, I saw he hadn’t signed anywhere, I opened the champagne!” he said. “Kamara, I see him playing in a big club and becoming really good.

“The way he imposes himself in this team, the personality he has, his ability to come out with the ball cleanly even under pressure, his devotion… he has everything, this kid!”
