Former Newcastle star explains what Allan Saint-Maximin needs to do to become a 'real gem'

Former Newcastle United defender Didier Domi believes Allan Saint-Maximin can become a 'real gem'.

But the 42-year-old warned that will only come if he matures, improves his decision making and his finishing.

The 23-year-old was in superb form on Sunday as he left the Sheffield United backline confused, bruised and frustrated with his pace and trickery on the ball.

It was his goal - his fourth of the campaign - that set Newcastle on their way to a 3-0 win over Sheffield United that lifted Steve Bruce's side 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

Now Domi wants Saint-Maximin to end the season strongly and display his talents consistently in order to take his game to the next level.

"If he can have the numbers, when you see the quality of dribble, of pace and he likes to make damages in the last third, but if he can add the numbers a bit like [Adama] Traore at Wolves then he will be a real gem," Domi told BeIN Sports.

"But still he needs to mature, his decision making has to be better and his finishing has to be better. But if he can improve on that he can become a really good player."
