Former Newcastle player confirms he's up for I'm A Celebrity this year

A former Newcastle United player has put himself firmly in the frame for the new series of I'm A Celebrity.

Six months have now passed since former EastEnders actress Jacqueline Jossa was crowned Queen of the Jungle in Australia, narrowly beating Corrie favourite Andrew Whyment to win the 2019 series.

And the rumour mill is now throwing up a number of potential camp mates for the I'm A Celebrity line-up this year, including one who is reportedly already 'confirmed' - Coronation Street's own Liz McDonald, aka actress Beverley Callard.

Someone else who is very keen to get in on the jungle action is John Barnes. Most famous for playing for Liverpool, England and his World in Motion rap, John played for Newcastle from 1997-9, after being snapped up from Liverpool by Kenny Dalglish.

Now John could well follow other footballers like Neil Ruddock and Ian Wright by going on I'm A Celebrity.

Speaking to Bonus Code Bets BonusCodeBets.co.uk about doing the show Barnes said: "I’ve done a number of shows in my days, from Family Fortune to Strictly Come Dancing but nothing as adventurous as I’m a Celeb.

"And to be honest, there’s nothing that I wouldn’t eat or anything I wouldn’t do...I’m fairly easy-going, if they asked me to do something, I'd do it.

He added: "‘The only fear I have is of sharks so by saying this I’m sure they’re going to put me in a tank with sharks but I guess that’s the nature of the game…but everything else I would be fine with.’

Asked why he wanted to do I'm A Celebrity, John replied: "Similar to why I went on to do Strictly Come Dancing all those year’s ago, it’d be good to lose some weight, perhaps try to beat Nick Knowles 2 stone weight loss."
