A former New Look store is set for a new future as a specialist job centre.
Hurstwood Holdings has let a 34,400 sq ft unit in the centre of Wrexham to the Department for Work and Pensions on a five year lease at £4.65 per sq ft.
Hurstwood acquired the former New Look store three years ago and the high street chain vacated the property in January of this year - later taking on a new site in the town.
Now the DWP will move in.
In other towns they have taken on former retail sites to accommodate 'work coaches' who will help people impacted by the pandemic to get into work and training.
Stephen Ashworth, Chairman and CEO of Hurstwood Holdings, said: “The Welsh Government has worked hard to revive the high street following lockdown.
"Job security plays a crucial role in responding to the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and this new job centre will help up to 750 people a day.
"We are really pleased that we have managed to turn this challenging situation in to such a positive one.”
The DWP said: "We can confirm that DWP is exploring potential options to take premises on a temporary basis in various locations across the country.
"Any new site is temporary and is in addition to existing provision and any decisions on new premises and contracts will be available on Gov.uk.
"Any temporary site will include some of the new work coaches that the department has recruited to help meet increased demand."
Based in Manchester, Hurstwood Holdings is a commercial investment group with over £180m of commercial and residential assets on 120 sites nationwide housing over 800 occupier clients.
