Former NBA commissioner David Stern undergoes emergency surgery after suffering brain hemorrhage

NEW YORK _ NBA Commissioner Emeritus David Stern suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage in New York on Thursday afternoon and has undergone emergency surgery, according to a statement released by the NBA.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with David and his family," the statement added.

As of Thursday evening, the NBA had no update on his condition.

According to a report by ABC Ch. 7's Morena Basteiro, Stern was transported to the hospital from Midtown restaurant Brasserie 8 {.

Stern, 77, was the NBA Commissioner from 1984 to 2014.
