Former Music Scene store is given a facelift but no new owners yet announced

Mystery is surrounding the future of a much-loved former shop in Mansfield after renovators gave it a new look months after it closed.

Music Scene, on Albert Street, closed for good last year after many years operating on the outskirts of the town centre.

The popular store, which sold musical instruments as well as holding music lessons, was a stalwart of the town until owners shut up shop in 2020.

However, since the store closed, renovators have taken on the shop and given it a new look, with the white Music Scene signage taken down and the store given a face lift.

No planning applications appear to have been lodged with Mansfield District Council to transform the business, and when Nottinghamshire Live asked shoppers in the street, no answers were given.

Workers in neighbouring shops also told Nottinghamshire Live they had not heard about plans for the shop, while one commented that they "must be keeping it a secret".

Announcing the news of its closure last year, Music Scene said it had "become impossible" to keep up with online retailers.

A notice posted on the shop's window said: "We are sorry to announce that Music Scene will no longer be trading.

"We thank you for your support over the years, but, sadly it had become impossible for us to keep up with the online stores."
