LONDON (Reuters) - Australian former MotoGP rider Anthony West has been suspended provisionally after failing a dope test for the second time in his motorcycle racing career.
The governing International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) said in a statement on Friday that the 37-year-old had tested positive at a Supersport World Championship race at Misano, Italy, on July 8.
It did not detail the substance detected in the urine sample.
West tested positive for the prohibited stimulant methylhexanamine while competing in Moto2 at the 2012 French Grand Prix, and was suspended retroactively for 18 months.
He made 32 starts in motorcycling's top flight, racing with a non-works Honda team in 2001 and then the Kawasaki factory team in 2007-08 before a brief return in 2015.
