Former Motherwell star James Scott ruled out for season as £1.5m striker faces operation

Hull City boss Grant McCann has revealed James Scott will be out for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

The £1.5m signing from Motherwell on the transfer window's final day suffered the injury during training sessions with his new teammates.

The 19-year-old will now aim to return to action ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

McCann said: “James will not play again this season unfortunately.

“He’s going to need an operation. We’re gutted for the boy because he’s only just come to the football club.

“We’ve got the reports back after seeing the specialist and he’s going to need an operation just to tidy (his ankle) up a little bit. It’s a gutting one for us all.

James Scott has been snapped up by Championship side Hull City (SNS Group)

“He’ll be back for pre-season and it’ll be like having the new player he is again.”

Scott told the Daily Record last week he was desperate to get up and running in the Championship.

He excitedly admitted: “It is a big jump but it is one I feel I can make.

“I just want to get on the field now and get as many minutes as I can and hopefully to score as many goals as I can. I might be under-estimated by the Hull City fans because they don’t really know much about me. I will go down there to try and make as much as an impression as I can.

“There have been a lot of good talented players gone down south, guys likes  James McCarthy, James McArthur, who have made top careers for themselves and hopefully I can make a similar impression.”
