Former Motherwell star explains latest managerial move as he takes 'great opportunity'

Willie Kinniburgh says the chance to boss Petershill in next season’s West of Scotland Premier League was one he couldn’t turn down.

The EK native and ex-Motherwell, Partick and Clyde star has taken the reins at ‘The Peasy’ and is excited about the prospect of leading the Springburn club to the top of the league and up through the pyramid system.

He replaces ex-EKFC boss Martin Lauchlan, who led Petershill to the Conference C title last season before moving on. And Kinniburgh says he’s looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.

“I’m happy with the move, going into the Premier League. This is where I want to be, at the top level,” he said.

“You see the opportunities that arise with the league’s pyramid system, and it’s something that’s quite exciting.

“It’s brilliant. For myself, personally, it’s a great opportunity to go and build a team to play against some really established, well-run old junior teams – your Auchinleck Talbots of the world.

“It’s a good chance. You put yourself up against the teams that have notoriously done extremely well in all of these competitions, including the Scottish Cup, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Kinniburgh left Gartcairn at the end of last season, having steered them to third place in Conference B.

He added: “I feel this is a reward for the hard work I’ve put in over the years. You try your best all the time, so it’s nice when you get an opportunity like this.”
