Former Motherwell midfielder makes Airdrie switch

Former Mother midfielder Matthew McDonald has completed his move to Airdrieonians.

It was revealed last week that the 18-year-old was on the verge of a move to New Brromfield, having been on trial at the club.

And the Diamonds have this morning announced the youngster has put pen to paper.

McDonald told the Airdrie website: “I’m happy to be joining a club where I’ll get opportunities to play first-team football.

“Pre-season has been great so far and I can’t wait to get started properly!”

McDonald played for the Diamonds over the weekend as they lost 3-0 to Clyde in the pre-season NL Cup and Airdrie boss Ian Murray added “Matthew was training with Motherwell’s first-team all of last season, and you can see that.”

“He’s a lovely footballer, and while I think we can add a bit more to his game in terms of going forward, I’m sure he’ll do well here.”

Airdrie kick-off their competitive season on Saturday when they host Annan in the Premier Sports Cup group stages.
