Former Mothercare shop site to reopen and Kilmarnock residents are being asked what they'd like to see at the vacant space

A community event will christen a new open space in Kilmarnock town centre next month.

The former Mothercare site on the corner of King Street and St Marnock Street was razed at the start of the year along with a row of shops.

Now an event has been organised to allow the community to put forward their ideas for what the space could be used for.

Organised by Celebrate Kilmarnock, residents are being welcomed to the site, which is currently filled with grass, for a community event on Saturday, September 18 from 11am to 2pm.

Dubbed 'Fair in the Square', the community movement say they want to "transform this area into a vibrant, community-owned place we can all take pride in and enjoy."

And stalls, live music and activities for kids will help keep everyone entertained on the day.

A statement from Celebrate Kilmarnock added: "Come and chat with us and let us know what you’d like to see this exciting new space being used for."

Further details on the vent are set to be announced.
