Former Morton starlet joins Ayrshire Junior football club's promotion push

Former Morton striker Aidan Ferris has this week joined Muirkirk's promotion push.

The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season at Burnside Park.

And his arrival at the West Region League Two couldn't have been timed any better with goal-crazy Gavin Hay sidelined through injury.

Ferris was on the books of St Mirren before joining Ton with the most successful spell of his career to date at Lowland League BSC Glasgow between 2015 and 2017.

He will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's clash with Lugar Boswell Thistle which is being played at Cumnock's Townhead Park.

Muirkirk boss Kevin Muirhead is thrilled to get his man and tonight told Ayrshire Live: "I'm sure he will go from strength to strength.

"I'm absolutely delighted with getting a player who has scored goals consistently at a high level into the club, especially after losing Gavin to injury.

"I suppose the only downside is I would have loved to see the two of them play together.

"I've known Aidan since he was a full-time pro at Morton and even then it was clear he had an eye for goal. He was at BSC Glasgow for a while and his goals to games ratio was outstanding.

"I know with the right attitude and hard work, he will get back to that kind of form."

Hay is suffering with a groin injury and Muirhead added: "We've had two different diagnosis recently so he is awaiting scan results to see exactly what is going on but things aren't looking promising at this stage."

Third-placed Muirkirk are five points behind leaders Vale of Leven in the table but have games in hand on the pace-setters, Yoker Athletic in second spot and Maybole in fourth.
