Former major league baseball all-star Jose Canseco says he will sell the finger he accidentally shot off, suggesting it “could be used as a stirring straw for drinks”.
The gregarious World Series winner and confessed steroid user went on Twitter to advertise his finger, which had been surgically reattached to his hand, apparently poorly. He also offered to sell the offending gun – a .45 Remington adorned with an engraved scorpion on its “custom grips with crystals and gold plating”. The 50-year-old said on Monday night both items would appear shortly on eBay.
Canseco shot the middle finger of his left hand off while cleaning his gun on 28 October, but the finger fell off during a poker tournament in Las Vegas a little more than two weeks later – at which point Canseco tweeted: “I knew something crazy was going to happen with this dam [sic] finger cause it felt like it was falling off.”
“My finger should have been amputated from the beginning. It was very loose with no bone to connect it. It was also smelling really bad.”
Canseco, who was once knocked out by a Philadelphia sportscaster after challenging the smaller man to a fight, joked about the finger the day after it fell off: “I put my finger in the freezer anyone want finger appetizers. Or is it finger snacks.”

Canseco played 17 years of professional baseball with half a dozen teams, racking up 462 home runs that would later be tainted by his admission of steroid use. After retiring from the sport, he published a book in which he accused 85% of professional baseball players, several by name, of using performance-enhancing drugs.
During his post-baseball career he has pursued reality television, mixed martial arts and fertility drugs in Mexico. He recently expounded on the possibilities of man’s future in the solar system.
